The Drink: Ardbeg 10 year

Appearance: This scotch has a beautiful deep amber colour to it. When we swirl the glass, the scotch has thick, slow legs running down the side.

Off the nose: we got very strong smoky and peaty notes with hints of citrus

On the palate: The first thing that comes to mind is wow! Intense peaty flavors, with a bit of spice (black pepper). There is definitely a mild citrus lingering around, the finish is long sweet and fruity!

The Cigar: Epic Habano – Fat Rothschild

Construction: This beautifully constructed 4.5 x 56 Fat Rothschild has an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, with a Dominican binder and Dominican & Nicaraguan fillers.

On the nose: The cigar smells sweet, tons of earthy tones with hints of cedar and pepper.

On the palate: The cigar is a bold flavor bomb, we got mild notes of sweet citrus, cedar and a little bit of cocoa.

The pair

Cigar pairing for Ardbeg 10 yearAfter taking a sip: then puffing the cigar, the epic Habano develops a bit of a spice, and the cigar becomes a little less bold. The cedar still remains, but seems a little bit more apparent.

After taking a puff: then sipping the Ardbeg, the scotch pretty much remains the same. The only subtle differences are the peat becomes a little less “in your face” and this makes scotch seem a little bit smoother.

Final thoughts

This was a fantastic pair! The Ardbeg and the Epic Habano both have some very similar flavor profiles to them. The combination of peppers, citrus and intense smoky flavors went together like nothing I’ve ever tried before! This pair is exactly what we look for when trying to match a cigar with a drink!
